American culture shock in australia

Heck, even within a country like India, when you move from one state to the other, you get a culture shock (See: States movie). Most of the time, this happens with people that are traveling to a foreign country for the first time where there is much more poverty than in their own’s. When one also lives overseas for an extended period of time, culture shock can be experienced on return to their homeland. McD’s is referred to as “Maccas”, Woolworths is “Woolies” and if it’s the afternoon and lunch is a sandwich, then you’re having a “sanger” or “sanga” in the “arvo”. Literally everyone greets you!


And most of the time they expect you to greet them back and maybe even start a conversation.
