How do you change you name after you get married? Can a woman change her name after marriage? As a woman, your surname doesn’t automatically change to your partner’s when you get married. If you do nothing, then after marriage, your name will stay the same.
The following advice applies to women who do want to change their name following marriage — whether you ’ve got married to a man, or a woman (a same-sex marriage).
Get your marriage license. You don't have to change your name if you do not wish to. I di so I don't know whether it is just a case of signing the register with your original name, or what, but that would be something the registrar would be able to tell you.
Change your Social Security card. Neither will a marriage certificate indicate in any way what surname you will be using following your marriage. It does bring responsibility though, since you need to inform people of the post-separation name change – everyone from the Passport Office to the DVLA as well as banks and credit card companies, and many will need to see the original deed poll document or a legal copy of it (a photocopy of the certificate will satisfy the others).
